Manga and DRM

I just got done reading an interesting article on Animenewsnetwork, and I thought I would share. Basically, its a short article about interviews done with Mangakas and about digital e-books.

A lot of new devices are coming out, and though they are thought to be for the printed word like your authors: Meyer, Grisham, Patterson, etc, etc. There are a few Mangakas out there that are stepping up and placing their art, their passion, onto these new devices.

DRM means Digital Rights Management. DRM is used in a lot of software, movies, video games, and other things including E-books. Producers and right holders place DRM on these types of media to prevent them from being stolen or ripped so that the owners, the money-makers, don’t end up losing money.

Kodansha, one of the manga companies that is placing their titles on digital resources, talked about their thoughts on DRM and why thirty-percent of their titles were rejected from I-tunes.

It was an interesting little read and thought I would share it here. 30 Percent of Kodansha Manga rejected by Itunes

This very first Chibi-Con went fairly well.  I know that I was literally running around to make sure things happen.  I want to shout out to Heather and Whitney for their effort as well.  I also want to thank Troy Baker, Tiffany Grant, Micah Solusod, and Reni Mimurai  for coming out and making this event really great.  Although I didn’t get to experience much as I was busy making things happen, I think people had good times and that is what matters.  Next year will be better.  I hope you will come out and see us again!
